LSSBB - Black Belt

LSSBB is an acronym for Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. The LSSBB is a professional designation given to individuals who have completed a rigorous training program in Lean Six Sigma methodology and who have also demonstrated their proficiency through successful completion of a series of exams and process improvement projects.

LSSBBs are often involved in leading process improvement initiatives within their organizations, and they are typically responsible for coaching and mentoring other Lean Six Sigma practitioners.

Lean Six Sigma Black Belts typically have a deep understanding of all aspects of the Lean Six Sigma approach, and they are often able to effectively apply its tools and techniques to a wide variety of business problems.

LSSBBs are highly sought-after by employers, and the LSSBB designation can open up doors to exciting career opportunities.

Difference Between LSSB and SSB

The main difference between LSSBB (Lean Six Sigma Black Belt) and SSBB (Six Sigma Black Belt) is only in the body of knowledge. They are similar in all other aspects.

LSSBB includes knowledge of lean and six sigma methodologies, while SSBB is more focused on six sigma tools and techniques.

Lean methodologies are a set of principles and practices used to eliminate waste, while Six Sigma is a set of tools and techniques used to improve quality.

So if you want to get Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, you’ll need to have a strong understanding of both lean and six sigma methodologies.

Difference Between a Black Belt and a Green Belt - LSSBB vs. LSSGB

A Black Belt is a Lean Six Sigma expert who has completed a rigorous Lean Six Sigma training program and has demonstrated proficiency through the successful completion of a series of exams and process improvement projects.

Green Belts are Lean Six Sigma practitioners who have completed a less intensive Lean Six Sigma training program and who typically focus on leading smaller scale improvement projects.

Black Belts typically have a deep understanding of all aspects of the Lean Six Sigma approach, while Green Belts typically have a more limited understanding.

Black Belts are often involved in leading comples and large-scale process improvement initiatives within their organizations, while Green Belts are typically responsible for supporting Black Belt projects  or leading simpler process improvement initiatives..

You will be able to interact with the instructor and other students in a face-to-face setting.

This type of training is more suitable for those who learn better in a structured environment.

Another option is to get training through your employer. Many organizations offer LSSBB training programs for their employees.

They usually have a team of experienced consultants who can provide you with the necessary training and support.

5 Pathways How to Get LSSBB Certification

If you want to achieve Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, there are a few different paths you can take.

Here are your options:

1. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Without Project

This is the most common type of certification and is offered by many different organizations such as training companies, consulting firms, universities and colleges.

Under this program, the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification requirements include taking the Black Belt course and passing the certification exam.

In this program, completing a Lean Six Sigma project is not required.

2. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification With Project

This type of certification is offered by some organizations and goes a step beyond the typical program.

In addition to taking the LSSBB course and passing the LSSBB exam, candidates must also complete and successfully lead a Lean Six Sigma project. Typically, two LSS projects are required to meet the LSSBB certification requirement.

3. ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

The ASQ (Amerian Society for Quality) is one of the most well-known and respected organizations in the Six Sigma world.

To become an ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), you only need to pass the ASQ BB written exam, which is not easy.

However, to apply and be accepted to take the SSBB certification exam, you must fulfill all ASQ BB certification eligibility criteria.

The requirements to take the exam include having at least three years of full-time paid work experience in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Body of Knowledge AND the completion of Six Sigma projects.

4. IASSC Certified Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

The IASSC (Iinternational Association for Six Sigma Certification)  is another popular certifying body.

IASSC only conducts LSSBB Certification exams. They do not offer any training.

To become an IASSC CSSBB, you must pass the IASSC CSSBB exam. There are no requirements or pre-requisites to take the IASSC certification exam.

5. Black Belt Bridge Program – Upgrade from Green Belt Certification

This is a certification pathway offered by a few organizations for those who already have their Green Belt certification and would like to upgrade to the Black Belt certification level.

Typically, the requirements include taking an additional course (which can be completed online or in a classroom setting), completing additional projects, and passing the Black Belt certification exam.

No matter which pathway you choose to take, make sure you do your research to ensure you are getting the best training and certification possible.

The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is a valuable credential that can help you advance your career and earn more money.

Take the time to find the right program for you and make the investment in your future.

Lean Six Sigma Mentor

When working on your first few Lean Six Sigma projects, it is best to have a mentor, preferably a Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Bleck Belt (CLSSMBB), who can guide you and help you navigate through the process.

A mentor can provide valuable insights and advice and can help you avoid common pitfalls. In addition, a mentor can provide support and motivation, which can be essential when working on complex projects.

Mentors can be found through your training provider, online resources, or through offline resources such as professional organizations and consulting companies.

When selecting a mentor, it is important to choose someone who has experience with the Lean Six Sigma methodology and who is willing to share their knowledge with you.

In addition, it is important to select a LLean Six Sigma mentor who you feel comfortable working with, and who you feel you can trust.

As a Black Belt level expert, the expectations for you to deliver results are very high.

You want to make sure you have the knowledge and most importantly the experience in delivering results using Lean Six Sigma, including managing the people and process changes that come with any process improvement initiative.

That is why I highly recommend that as a minimum, you go through a Black Belt Training program that covers the complete Black Belt Body of Knowledge and get a certification that requires completion of real-world Lean Six Sigma projects.

This will ensure that you are well-equipped to handle any situation that may come up and deliver the results that are expected of you.

The Black Belt Body of Knowledge

As a Black Belt, you are expected to be an expert in the Lean Six Sigma methodology. This means that you should have a thorough understanding of all the tools and techniques that are used in the Lean Six Sigma methodology.

You should also be familiar with the different stages of a Lean Six Sigma project, as well as the roles and responsibilities of each team member.

In addition, you should also be able to effectively communicate with all stakeholders, including senior management.

The complete BB Body of Knowledge is comprehensive and usually requires 120-160 hours of study.

Be wary of any program that promises to train you in everything you need to know in a much shorter period of time.

Completing a real-world Lean Six Sigma project

While it is important to have theoretical knowledge of the Lean Six Sigma methodology, it is equally important to have practical experience in using the methodology to solve real-world problems.

In addition to training, I believe it is also important to get a certification that requires the completion of actual Lean Six Sigma projects.

By completing a project, you will be able to put into practice all the theoretical knowledge that you have acquired and hone your skills in using the Lean Six Sigma methodology.

This will not only ensure that you have the necessary skills and knowledge, but it will also give you the confidence to take on any Black Belt level project.

The bottom line is that if you want to be a successful Black Belt, you need to have both theoretical and practical knowledge of the Lean Six Sigma methodology.

Not all Black Belt Certifications Are Created Equal

It is important to note that not all Black Belt certifications are created equal.

Some organizations offer certifications that only require the successful completion of an online exam, without any evidence of actual project experience.

I believe that these types of certifications are not as valuable as those that require the completion of actual Lean Six Sigma projects.

The bottom line is that if you want to be a successful Black Belt who can deliver value and results, you need to make sure you have the right training and certification.

Don’t settle for anything less than the best.
